Travel Trend for Euro 2016 in France

In a few days, France will be welcoming more than 1.5 million visitors from around the world for Euro 2016 from 10 June to 10 July. This event will help boost tourism in many French cities and also Europe as many people will take advantage of Euro 2016 to take a European trip.

In 2015, France was once again ranked the world’s leading tourist destination with a record of 84.5 million foreign visitors, showing an increase of 0.9%. The goal is to receive 100 million visitors by 2020*

According to a recent announcement of Airbnb, the global biggest accommodation-booking-platform, there have been 250,000 tourists booked accommodation in Paris and other host cities via the website. Although the tournament only features European teams, travelers of other nationalities have shown plenty of enthusiasm when it comes to booking Airbnb rentals this period. The nationality split:  45.000 Brits; 30.000 Americans; 12.000 Germans; 10.000 Australians; 7.000 Irish, 6.000 Austrians, 5.300 Swedish, 5.000 Belgians, 4.500 Spanish and 3.000 Italians. There will be around 10.000 tourists in Paris. Marseille is Airbnb’s second most popular destination with 38,000 expected visitors, ahead of Nice in third place (28,000 visitors). Tourists are no doubt keen to book breaks that kill two birds with one stone, enjoying a getaway on the Riviera while also taking in a Euro 2016 match.

The studied conducted by Travel Leaders Group – the American tour operator also reveals that the respondents preferred France as the destination of choice for summer. Despite the risk of terrorism, a lot of Americans still choose to fly to Europe, and in particular France, which has been their favorite destination for a long time.
